It’s hard not to believe in fate after hearing this love story! Meeting twice by chance in one day, followed by a long-distance friendship and five year romance, Alycia and Robbie planned their whimsical wedding to celebrate. With a designer gown for Alycia, maids in elegant neutral dresses and the boys in black tie, their day was all about keeping it simple, but effortlessly stylish!
The Planning Experience
“Wedding planning was so much fun! Before I got stuck into it, I set some rules for myself to make sure I didn’t get off track. I saw the wedding as a holistic experience which included the lead up and the actual day. Weirdly enough, I mostly enjoyed the planning and challenge of piecing the puzzle together. I met new people, had out of the ordinary experiences and everyone around us genuinely expressed excitement for our big day which kept us buzzing all along. Robbie and I would always make final decisions together, so it was an inclusive experience.”
Finding the Dress
“I really had no idea where to start when it came to dress shopping. I did some research online to get an idea of styles, which led me to a boutique which stocked Hayley Paige gowns. I just seemed to gravitate towards her beautiful styles. I kept an open mind and tried on every style so I could get an idea of what best suited my body shape. My gown was literally the first dress I tried on. It reflected me and my personality and it simply made me feel happy and amazing. I instantly felt so excited to show it off to my future hubby, which is also why it felt so right, knowing he’d love it too.”
Reception Styling
“Staying true to the venue and the beautiful surroundings, we kept the space botanical and natural with a few simple touches. This included long waterfall table runners along the raw timber tables, tall taper candles, vases with fresh florals, hanging lush greenery from the chandeliers, and a light feature which framed the dance floor and reflected onto the surrounding glass walls of the venue.
In the theme of keeping plans and wedding tasks enjoyable, I was conscious of not taking on too much DIY. I had something specific in mind that I couldn’t find for the reception table vases, so I connected glass bowls and candlesticks with glue, finishing them with gold spray paint.”
Meaningful Music
“Entertainment was all live music, which is something we particularly love. Our processional song was ‘Favourite Continent’, by Quinn Erwin. Our first dance song was ‘From Eden’, by Hozier. Not all lyrics were suited, but we couldn’t steer away from this song which we had a special connection with, so we just arranged some minor lyric adjustments.”
Special Moment
“Robbie delivered an awesome speech that I’ll cherish forever. It was the one thing he was so nervous about, and he pulled it off like a pro. Especially when he whipped out the original receipt I wrote my phone number on 10 years ago! This was a beautiful surprise.”
