What should brides keep in mind when shopping for their wedding dress?
Stay true to yourself. Friends and family will want to have input on what you should wear and how you should look, but your style is what defines who you are and that’s the girl your partner is expecting to see!
What are brides surprised to learn about what you do?
Girls are usually surprised to learn that I hand stitch all Vellos Bridal gowns myself. It truly is a one-on-one service where all gowns are individually created to suit my brides’ needs. I personally see every girl for her design consultation, create and fit all the dresses myself.
What’s the biggest mistake brides can make when choosing their wedding dress?
Bringing too many people with opinions to their fittings! It’s great to have a close family member or friend with you that knows you well and can help you express what you’re after, but often when too many people have input it can get very confusing for the bride and she can end up not having what she really wants.
What’s one popular question you get?
“I’m on a fitness challenge and expecting to lose weight, will the dress still fit me?” The fastening is the last thing I put on my gowns so I can pull the dress in up until this point.
How do you create a great experience for your clients?
Every girl wants to look her best, so I understand that there will be changes in the dress as the bride sees it come together and try to be as accommodating as possible.
What do your clients say they love most?
Brides always tell me they’re going to miss their fittings when their dress is complete because they start to feel like they’re hanging out with a friend. I always try to create a comfortable, stress-free experience.
What are some ideas you’ve seen and loved?
I love anything outside the box, like when a bride turns up and says, “I want a black wedding dress” or, “I want a tea length dress”. It’s so enjoyable to create dresses for girls who want to have a little fun with their design.
What three pieces of advice do you have for the wedding planning or the wedding day?
Don’t stress about the little things you can’t control, stay true to your style and have fun!
