Roxanne & Andreas’ Tropical DIY Wedding

After meeting online, Roxanne knew Andreas was the one for her on their first date! Purchasing their dream home two years later, it soon served as a sentimental backdrop to their relaxed nuptials. With the help of their bridal party, they transformed their property into a tropical fiesta and prepared a smorgasbord of homemade treats for their guests, including a statement wedding cake topped with coconut flakes and fresh blooms. We love that they stayed true to themselves from start to finish, opting for romantic couple portraits before the ceremony and ensuring their adorable dachshund Henry was part of their day.

Engagement Story

“We talked about getting married, but Andreas doesn’t have the best taste in terms of style, so I knew I would have to find my own ring. When I did, I raced home to tell him and he filmed the journey to the store. It was so nice to watch how excited we both were.

Our engagement wasn’t a storybook romance with fancy dinners, dancing, flowers or bending down on one knee. It was about us being ourselves and having fun in the process. We announced our engagement by taking a photo of Henry and I at our property, with a sign saying, ‘Daddy asked and Mummy said yes’.”

Most Important

“We wanted to have our wedding at our home surrounded by the people we love the most. We also wanted Henry to be a part of our special day, and of course pineapples had to be included!”

Finding the Dress

“I went to a bridal store just to see what a wedding dress would look like on, but felt like they were not for me. I also couldn’t justify spending so much money on a dress that could only be worn for one day.

I decided on a two-piece so I could wear the top on our honeymoon and dress it up or down with a pair of jeans or a skirt. The tulle skirt has been made so I can take out layers, dye it and also wear again with heels or even high-top sneakers!”

The Planning Experience

“Planning our wedding was very rewarding. We spent every weekend and holiday getting our home ‘wedding ready’. We discovered strengths and talents we never knew we possessed. I found out how handy Andreas is and that I can make a divine pineapple, pear and ginger jam which goes so well with a cheese platter.”

Entertaining Guests

“We hired a Caribbean band for entertainment. I walked down the aisle to ‘Holly Holy’ by UB40 and our first dance was my mum and dad’s at their wedding – ‘Red, Red Wine’ by the same artist.”

Made with Love

“We didn’t want to skimp on food or alcohol so decided to cater it ourselves. We served an antipasto table with cheese tower for cocktail hour and a seafood buffet for dinner. My jam was our wedding favour.”

Best Advice

“Be yourself and choose an experienced photographer who suits your style and who you are comfortable around. Also choose quality food, alcohol and entertainment – that’s what people remember and appreciate.”
