Wanting a classic and romantic wedding, Alex and Matt’s celebration features a sweet garden ceremony, chic bridal party styling and subtle personal touches throughout their stunning restaurant reception!
The Planning Experience
“I’m a producer, so I’m used to coordinating things. I found the organising second nature, but the decision making was the hardest – that’s where Matt came in! He made the decisions when I couldn’t pick between all the things I’d researched. And I loved spending time with my mum along the way. The things I’d left till the last minute did stress me out – I should have done them sooner!”
Entertaining Guests
“It was important to us that our family and friends had a good time – no big breaks, standing around or outdated traditions! A friend played at the ceremony as we walked down the aisle, then in the park while guests had drinks and cheese platters. The bus we provided for guests to get to each venue allowed drinks, which everyone enjoyed, and we had a DJ at the reception.”
Finding The Dress
“I found the dress search stressful and fun at the same time! I actually bought a dress and then changed my mind. When I tried on the one I wore, I knew and so did my mum! I used Still White to sell the first dress I bought.”
Bridal Party Styling
“We knew we wanted ivory bridesmaid dresses to go with the classical theme. Their hair and makeup brief was soft and natural. Matt was in charge of the boys – they wore the same suit, shirt, shoes and belt as Matt, but he wore a bow tie while the boys wore ties. They looked great!”
Venue Styling
“Our style was a slightly modern twist on classical. Our reception venue came ready-styled, so we added bronze accents to tie in, along with soft whimsical flowers. We also added some personal touches, including letter lights and photos of our family’s weddings.”
DIY Projects
“As we met in Canada, we spray painted maple leaf place cards and printed names on them. My mum made our seating chart with an old mirror and Dad made cheese platters for the ceremony snacks and our card box.”
Meaningful Music
“We love Jack Johnson, Vance Joy and James Bay, which were all played at the ceremony. Our first dance was to, ‘Wasn’t Expecting That’ by Jamie Lawson, which we thought summed up our relationship.”
Best Advice
“Enjoy it and don’t leave things to the last minute! Second-hand is also a great way to get the designer dress you want for sometimes half the price.”
