During an overseas holiday for a friend’s wedding, Dean proposed to Shuyann with a custom made ring in one of their favourite places, Tulum, Mexico. Check out their romantic farm engagement shoot and tips for a relaxed, fun and memorable experience…which for her included riding bikes and horses in heels!
What was your experience like on the day?
“Fun! It really helped having a genuine, down to earth photographer who helped us feel extremely comfortable.”
How did you decide what to do for your shoot?
“I had seen some lovely vintage shots of couples with bikes and horses and took some inspiration from there – the shoot had to have a sense of fun and adventure. We have a love affair with the Margaret River region, so Dean suggested his best mate’s beautiful farm for the location. It just so happened that he owns and trains horses!”
Any tips for working with props and animals?
“Be relaxed and enjoy the moment, especially like in our case working with horses. They are so in tune and can sense your uneasiness and fear. We also didn’t wear the most practical attire, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Some practice beforehand wouldn’t go astray, but the spontaneity definitely added to the fun.”
What’s your best advice for other couples considering a farm engagement shoot?
“Look through their body of work to find a photographer that will meet your expectations!”
