Emily and Josh’s romantic city wedding proves a bit of rain doesn’t have to cramp your fun or style. This lovely couple brought the outdoors in with their botanical theme, and when asked what flowers featured in their arrangements, Em replied, ‘Pretty ones!’ – she’s certainly right!

The Planning Experience

“We had a ball! The trickiest thing was locking in a florist, as their quotes and services can vary so much. Once we found Bits and Blooms we were off and racing! Josh and I made all our decisions together – it was a team effort. Josh was actually interested in a lot of the detail, which surprised me a bit!”

Most Important

“Creating a fun atmosphere for our guests. I think details are important as they set the mood and vibe for the day. For the reception, we planned to get most of the formalities out of the way as quickly as possible so we could maximise our dance floor time. Even by doing this we only got through three of our four playlists – I was gutted because some of the best tunes were on the last one!”

Plan B

“Our ceremony was meant to be in the gardens but unfortunately had to be moved into our marquee due to the rain. It was styled very simply with a beautiful floral arbour. The staff at our venue went above and beyond, especially considering the weather changing plans. From being there with umbrellas to walk the bridesmaids out of the car, to handing out surprise piccolo coffees after the ceremony – they were faultless!”

Bridal Party Style

“Josh and I thought navy and pink would work well for the garden wedding we were picturing. I wanted the girls to be able to reflect their own styles, so we found a designer that used the same fabric in multiple styles and the girls chose their own dresses. Josh had his suit custom-made and he looked amazing – he was stoked with the final product. The boys were pretty easy – one trip and they were done! Josh and I used Pinterest a lot to have a clear idea of the look we wanted.”

Finding The Dress

“I went to Sydney twice with my girlfriends. On our first trip I thought I had found ‘the one’, but when I went back a few months later to try it on, we all hated it! During the second trip we went to a boutique in Double Bay. I knew it was the one because I didn’t want to take it off and I kept shamelessly looking at myself in the mirror!”

Reception Decor

“We had unstructured, flowing flower arrangements on the tables, along with copper and rose gold tea light holders. As we got married on Easter Saturday, we made our own bonbonnieres – little jars filled with Easter eggs. I also printed thank you cards from Etsy for each place setting.”

Best Advice

“Just try to have fun with it and don’t let it get too serious – it should be about celebrating you and your partner with your favourite people, and not much else!”
