What would you love every couple to know about wedding photography?
Photography is such a powerful medium in its ability to capture emotion and preserve memories. Your wedding day will fly by, so it’s important to have photographers you can trust to skillfully document the events as they unfold. It’s our job to make sure we don’t miss any of the special moments, both planned and unplanned, and we work hard to be everywhere without getting in the way!
What should couples keep in mind when planning this part of their wedding?
Photographers shoot in many different styles and each has their own unique look, so do some research to find one whose style matches your own. Also remember that your photographer will be spending the entire day with you, so it will be a lot more enjoyable if you get along with each other! It’s definitely worth meeting with any photographers you’re considering prior to making a booking to get a feel for how they work.
What are couples often surprised to learn about what you do?
That we document the events of your entire day, not just the ‘typical’ wedding moments and posed photographs! We tell your story by capturing all the candid in-between moments in our unobtrusive shooting style.
What is one popular question you get?
Couples often ask us for advice on what they can do to make the day run as smoothly as possible. While there’s no way to ensure that absolutely everything will go to plan, we always recommend creating a comprehensive timeline to share with your vendors, wedding party and key family members or friends who are happy to assist. We’re always on hand to help if couples are unsure how to go about this!
How do you create a great experience for your couples?
We encourage our couples to do an engagement session with us a few months before the wedding, so they can get to know us and become familiar with our shooting style. We find this helps to ease any awkwardness in front of the camera on the big day!
As we are both pretty laid back and friendly, more than anything we like to have fun with our couples and make sure they are feeling relaxed and comfortable on their wedding day. After the ceremony, we let them enjoy some time together away from their guests where they can reflect on the commitment they have just made and bask in the glow of being newly married! We capture these raw emotions with minimal direction so our couples can really be in the moment.
What do your couples say they love most about what you do?
They love our fun and colourful style, and the way we work with natural light and surroundings to produce a collection of beautiful images of their wedding day. They also appreciate that we are professional, easy to work with and will go above and beyond to give them the best results possible.
What advice do you have for couples planning their wedding right now?
1. Light is a very important factor in good photography, so consider what time of day you will be having your ceremony and portraits taken and create your timeline from there. The most beautiful and flattering light is typically in the late afternoon when the sun is low in the sky and casts a beautiful golden glow.
2. Creating a mood board can really help you visualise your wedding day style. Gather together images of flowers, dresses, cakes, table settings, colour palettes, etc. that appeal to you, and narrow this down until you have an overall look for your wedding. Once you have your style established, all the decisions you need to make will become a lot easier!
3. Do your research and speak with vendors in-depth before booking to make sure they are on the same page as you. Clear communication during the planning will also ensure everyone understands what is required of them in regards to the service being provided and the timings on the day.
