On a drive one weekend we stumbled across more than a dozen roadside messages about someone’s birthday surprise. “Today is your day. Your day to smile, your day to celebrate, your day to be loved. But what is your present?”
As we read each sweet message, we wanted to know the rest of the story. We finally got our wish when Gemma and Rick’s wedding landed in our inbox – it turns out Rick had made the signs, proposing to Gemma on her birthday at the beautiful Mount Glorious lookout surrounded by family and friends. We can’t tell you how thrilled we are to now be sharing the fabulous tipi celebration that followed!
The Planning Experience
“It was exciting, terrifying, happy and frustrating…it was a roller coaster. I enjoyed meeting our wonderful vendors – I never thought we would come out the other side of our wedding with new friends, but we really have.”
The Ceremony
“I was really stressed on the day because it started bucketing down with rain right before the outdoor ceremony. I was anxious that the guests, who had spent the time and effort making themselves gorgeous, had to trudge through wet grass and mud for the drizzly ceremony and would be upset.
They were not. They loved every single second of the day and I had no reason to worry, but it was on my mind. Let things like that go – your guests will have an awesome day no matter what and so should you.”
“We’re just on the same team, and we love doing life together, making each other laugh every single day.”
Meaningful Music
“Our first dance song was ‘The Girl’ by City and Colour. Rick will try to tell you he hates it but he secretly loves it and it has become our unofficial song! We love cooking together and listening to music and will quite often dance hand-in-hand in the kitchen, listening to City and Colour.”
The Reception
“There were giant lawn games set up near the food truck and bar which guests could play after getting a beer or while waiting for their wood fired pizza. A huge floral installation hung over a two metre long grazing platter, with tables and bench seating placed around the outside of the tipi and the band and dance floor positioned towards the front.
Instead of traditional bonbonnieres, we made a donation to Alzheimer’s Australia in memory of my grandmother, Peg. Our guests received a card, Alzheimer’s Australia pin and wooden laser cut-out of their names to take home.”
Post Wedding Brunch
“A lot of our guests were travelling some distance to celebrate with us. To spend extra time with them, we decided to put on a brunch the following day. Almost everyone returned to the venue the next day, to enjoy the BBQ and share stories from the day before. It was just a really nice way to extend the celebrations that bit further.”
