Rebecca and Ash knew after their first overseas trip together that their love was meant to be! They planned their beautiful lilac and burgundy boho wedding to include lots of DIY touches to personalise their day, with professional help where they needed. We love the idea of a rug for the flower girls to sit on during the ceremony, and the abundance of oh-so-pretty garden style flowers!
The Planning Experience
“I like to control things, I admit, so for me this was a hands on experience and very stressful at times. Ash and I listened to each other’s wants and included one another in everything except the dress! We loved planning it all ourselves, but also learnt that some things are best left to the professionals.”
Meaningful Music
Bridesmaid Entrance: ‘Here Comes The Sun’ by The Beatles, instrumental version.
Processional: ‘Marry Me’ by Train – a band Ash really likes.
Signing the Register: ‘Blackbird’ by The Beatles and ‘Just Breathe’ by Pearl Jam.
Recessional: ‘Geronimo’ by Sheppard.
Favourite Moment
“Hearing Ash’s vows – we each wrote our own and didn’t hear them until they were read in front of our family and friends. I was so excited to read mine to him also.”
Finding The Dress
“When I tried my dress on at the store, the girls were fantastic and I thought I loved it, but when it arrived I didn’t love the sleeves anymore. I took it to the seamstress recommended by the store and asked her if we could change them. We could, she did and it was perfect for me!”
Styling The Venue
“I purchased props such as the welcome wreath, hanging wheels, gold votives, frames, signs and vases and added my own decorative touches. We also used family items, like my Pa’s ladder for holding grandparents’ wedding pictures and Ash’s dad’s navy suitcase for thank you cards. I combined these with professional hire and help to create the look we wanted. When I stepped into our reception and saw the beautiful flowers everywhere it was more than I could have imagined – I’m ecstatic with how it all came together!”
Entertaining Guests
“We had lawn games and music playing for guests after the ceremony and a DJ for the reception. We gave him a big list of our favourite songs to give him an idea of what genres we like, and he nailed it!”
Best Advice
1. Research your suppliers and if you love their work, trust them.
2. Sit down with your husband-to-be and hear what he also wants – you might be surprised about what he has envisioned!
3. Don’t be afraid to go dress shopping alone. After all on the day it’s you wearing the gown.
