The happiness Kayla and Wesley felt on their special day radiates from every image of their bright garden wedding! Featuring a striking pink, orange and yellow palette, incredible florals and a beautiful marquee reception, we love that their gorgeous ceremony arbor now resides in their garden as a reminder of their heartfelt celebration.
Love Story
“I always get so embarrassed telling people that Wes and I met at a nightclub – it seems so cheesy! It was only three weeks before I moved to China for a year. We made it through our first year together despite being in different countries! From then on I knew nothing could stop us. We got our first puppy together, built our first home and on my birthday in 2015 he proposed! He was so cute and I was over the moon.”
Planning Experience
“I think my mum was more surprised than anyone at how calm I was throughout the whole experience. One of my bridesmaids gave me a wedding diary and another gave me a bridal magazine with a checklist. I would go through the checklist, pick something, get it done and tick it off! I am not going to lie, there was a little stress creeping in there towards the end when it was time to finalise everything, but we made it!”
Ceremony Styling
“We had our ceremony in the secret garden at Burnham Grove Estate – it has such a magical feel. I decided to purchase an arch rather than hiring one as it was around the same price, and now I get to keep it in our garden forever. I found the perfect one on sale in Early Settler by chance while window shopping with mum. Merci Bouquet made it look absolutely beautiful with their flower creations.”
Meaningful Music
“Some of our favourites were played during the ceremony, including ‘Wedding Song’ by Angus & Julia Stone, ‘Better Together’ by Jack Johnson and ‘Beautiful Surprise’ by India Arie. Ever since I can remember, I knew ‘Love Of My Life’ by Brian McKnight would be the first song Wesley and I would dance to at our wedding. There is just something about it that always made me think of him.”
Finding The Dress
“I had only really given myself around six months to plan everything – finding my dress was one of the first things on my agenda! I had a particular shop in mind but after trying on a few dresses I knew none of them were for me. I dragged mum around to a few more stores, but didn’t have that wow moment every girl dreams of when they try on the perfect dress! A friend recommended Made With Love Bridal – as soon as I saw ‘Eve’ dress in the boutique, I knew it was for me! The ladies were lovely and I put my order in that day.”
Fresh Idea
“On our invitations we included a line for people to request a song, “I promise to dance if you play…” It was so much fun seeing what songs people came up with!”
Most Important
“I wanted to keep it as simple as possible and make sure I incorporated things that were important to us both, as well as our families. As Wesley is Samoan, we had a beautiful Samoan dance performed by his sisters and cousins, as well as myself performing a traditional Siva Samoa. It was so much fun and everyone joined in and had a great time. As for my family, a few Cold Chisel songs and they were happy!”
Reception Styling
“Our reception was held in the Marquee at Burnham Grove. It was beautiful, with lights on the ceiling, long tables, white linen and brown bentwood chairs. We kept it simple as I wanted the flowers to be the star of the show. The flowers, wedding favours and menus all looked perfect together.”
Floral Recipe
Garden roses, Sweet Pea, Dahlias, Tulips, Gloriosa Lilies, Billy Buttons, Hypericum berry and Camellia foliage.
