From the outset, Nikki and Kesh wanted to create a relaxed event that celebrated their different cultures and delivered good food, good wine and dancing. Their industrial art gallery wedding includes peach and navy tones, clusters of roses, peonies and hydrangeas, and a pretty dessert display, all of which embraced the art, architecture and streetscapes of their inner-city location.
The Planning Experience
“It was good, actually very relaxed. I’m a disorganised person usually, but in this instance I seemed to have everything under control. I was anxious about everyone having a good time, which was the only thing that really stressed me out leading up to the wedding.”
Finding The Dress
“The experience was great! I found two gowns from the same designer, Rose Zurzolo, which I absolutely loved. My mum preferred one and deep down I preferred the other. I kept asking Mum which one I should get but she wouldn’t tell me. I finally decided and couldn’t have been happier. On the day mum looked at me and said she was so happy that I chose the dress I did because, ‘It was just me’.”
Venue Styling
“My friends Kate and Sal helped me with the styling – I have no idea! I knew I wanted lots of flowers and candles and a nice dessert table. The venue didn’t need much styling because of all the artwork and polished concrete flooring. It was a great space to work with.”
Favourite Moments
“Seeing Kesh for the first time, our photos and the dancing. Special family moments were seeing my mum and dad when they first saw me, and having my grandparents and Kesh’s family from the UK there to share the special day with us.”
DIY Details
“Kesh did some DIY. He made the sign out the front, a few wooden boxes and a frame for our Polaroid photos to go on.”
Giving Back
Nikki and Kesh made a donation to their favourite charity on behalf of their guests, writing, ‘As a gesture of thanks and for sharing our special day, we have made a donation to…’
Entertaining Guests
“We had both a band and a DJ. The band played covers and the DJ played Indian music, which got everyone up dancing. Our wedding song ‘Home’, by Phillip Phillips, was performed live by a friend and for the father/daughter dance ‘My Wish’, by Rascal Flatts.”
Best Advice
“Relax, enjoy the planning and take the time to stand back and have a few moments with your husband during the night.”
