They’ve known each other since they were teenagers, but Kate was still so surprised by Peter’s proposal she asked him to repeat the question! They wanted a relaxed day, and their high country wedding hits the mark – with a lovely sheath wedding dress, bridesmaids in powder blue and gorgeous mixed flowers just some of the details. Kate shares how they kept things beautifully simple.

The Planning Experience

“It took me 12 months to pick an engagement ring, let alone think about planning a wedding! Three months before our wedding I called one of my good friends, who I was lucky enough to have as our photographer, to check out dates. She told me April and May were full and I knew if I waited until after then it probably wouldn’t have happened this year. So she gave me a weekend and it turned out nearly everything was available! After that it probably took a week to get all the big stuff sorted.”

Most Important

“I wasn’t worried about any of the details really – all I wanted to do was marry Pete. We considered going to a Registry Office to avoid all the fuss, but it turned out to be the perfect day.”

Finding the Dress

“My wedding dress search was extremely simple. I found my dress online when looking for an outfit to wear to a friend’s wedding. I loved it and so I bought it – I only had to go into one bridal shop and that was to buy a veil.”

Bridal Party Styling

“Black tie suits are always timeless. The bridesmaids were overseas for a big part of the planning, so I picked something that I thought would suit them both.”

DIY Projects

“Pete made the flower boxes and table numbers and I filled small jars with honey as a thank you gift. We also displayed photos of our parents and grandparents on their own wedding day.”

Entertaining Guests

“Short speeches were a must and great music always makes a difference. The band were amazing and starting playing soon after the ceremony and finished as we all left at the end of the night.”

Best Advice

1. If you miss something on the day, no one else will notice.

2. It is hard work trying to get around to see all your guests, so really think about the people you want there. We had a dinner the night before for anyone that wanted to come. This really made the weekend as we had a little more time to spend with everyone.

3. Have your best friends beside you for the day, everything seems much simpler then.
