One of the most special wedding planning moments is the dress search – sipping champagne with the ladies in your life and finding the look you love! It’s possible to be drawn to more than one wedding gown for different reasons, which can make choosing “The One” that bit more difficult. Here’s ten tips on how to narrow it down if you’re torn between two looks!
1. Give yourself some time
If you are truly struggling to decide, organise another appointment to try each gown on again rather than feeling pressured to commit.
2. Consider your look from top to toe
How would you like your hair styled, are there any particular accessories would you like to wear, will you be rocking a pair of statement heels? There may be one dress that lends itself best to showing off the rest of your look.
3. Trust your instincts
If you had a particular style in mind when you first started your dress search and end up with a similar look as one of the final options, it may be the one that best represents your natural style.
4. Perform a random draw
Put the names of each dress in a jar and pick one at random. You’ll know straight away whether you are disappointed (or secretly stoked!) about your choice.
5. Take a photo in each dress
It will help you see the styles from a different perspective and also determine which looks best in front of the lens.
6. When in doubt – go timeless
The more classic the silhouette, the less your look will date (ask any bride from the puffy-sleeved 80s!). It may even mean a beautiful heirloom option for a daughter.
7. Think practical
It’s not very romantic, but if you are well and truly stuck, think about things like wedding location practicalities (church, garden, beach?), groom’s attire (so your styles complement each other) and comfort on the day (some gowns weigh a good few kilos!).
8. Ask your consultant
They have plenty of experience with helping brides find the one, and are experts when it comes to fit and style. Sometimes getting a third party opinion from someone who isn’t a friend or family member can provide you with the objectiveness you need!
9. Switch it up
If budget permits, get both gowns and enjoy revealing your second look at the reception!
10. Keep looking
It may be that you’ve found dresses you like, but not the one you really love. If you keep comparing each new dress you try to one of your original picks, you’ve answered the question for yourself!
